Foffee: As soon as Theo hears the whirr of the espresso machine, he jumps up and down yelling Foffee! Foffee! I steam some milk for him, and we drink our foffees together.
Djembe: He prefers duets with Dad but will play for over half an hour improvising lyrics: If a woman walks by with a dog, he’ll beat the drum and yell, “doggy!” not missing a bear or he’ll look at me and yell “Mommy eggy” or “Car!” or his most common line: “Podicle!”
Rubber boots: Rain or shine, if he could wear rubber boots every day, he’d be a happy man.
Water: The allure of water continues. Whether it’s the bathroom or kitchen sink, the garden hose, water in a cardboard box, the pool (schweeming), the shower, the spray park or a series of puddles, he’s in.
Guys with guitars. Theo likes to dance and drum but he is hypnotized by string instruments. Whether it’s Chilliwack dueling guitars or a lone guy with a Ukulele in the ferry lineup, he’ll stand inches away from them staring with a disconcerting super focus.
Lotions and lip gloss: Nothing elicits the level of ear-piercing screams quite like trying to extricate body lotion, butter, hair-conditioner, lip gloss or chapstick from this cream-obsessed toddler.
Fish: The Aquarium is finally living up the hype. He runs in the door bowling over the patrons screaming Beesh! Beesh! at the top of his lungs.
People: He has no warmup phase. If he sees kids, he runs up to them (any age) and joins in whether they like it or not. He says hello to everyone on the street daring them to ignore him. He runs into preschool classes, daycares and houses looking for action. I’d be remiss not to mention his total adoration for the three kids downstairs!
Elmo: Ricky Gervais’ celebrity lullaby is a longstanding favorite.
